1. Acceptance of Terms

By downloading, installing, copying, or using BookHaven ("Software"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you disagree with any portion of these Terms, you must not use the application and should remove it from your device.

2. License & Permitted Use

Subject to compliance with these Terms, BookHaven grants you a personal, non-exclusive, revocable, and non-transferable license to execute and use the Software on supported hardware for personal study, reading, and non-commercial educational purposes.

3. User Content & Copyright Responsibility

BookHaven provides rendering capabilities for local document formats including EPUB, PDF, TXT, and HTML. Please note the following strict stipulations:

• No Content Distribution: BookHaven does not supply, distribute, host, or sell books or copyrighted literature.
• Lawful Content Warranty: You represent and warrant that you hold legal copyright ownership, a valid consumer license, or public domain authorization for all documents imported into the application.
• Zero Tolerance for Piracy: The contributors of BookHaven strictly oppose copyright infringement. You agree not to import or parse unauthorized copies of protected works.

4. Offline Architecture & Backup Responsibility

Because BookHaven operates with zero cloud synchronization:

• All your reading progress, notes, vocabulary cards, and book files reside solely within your device's local application sandbox.
• You are solely responsible for maintaining operating system backups of your device and generating local JSON backups using the in-app backup feature.
• Uninstalling the app or wiping device storage permanently erases local data without possibility of server recovery.

5. Third-Party AI Integrations (BYOK)

If you utilize client-side AI study features (such as Google Gemini, OpenAI, or DeepSeek):

• You must supply your own valid personal API credentials from the respective provider.
• You are bound by the terms of service, acceptable use policies, and billing terms of your chosen provider.
• BookHaven developers bear no responsibility for third-party AI service downtime, rate limit throttling, or inaccurate generative responses.

6. Intellectual Property Rights

The BookHaven source code, user interface, brand assets, and application architecture are protected by copyright and permissive open-source licenses. Public domain literature remains the free cultural heritage of humanity.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties ("AS IS")

THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. THE AUTHORS AND CONTRIBUTORS EXPRESSLY DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE PARSING OF MALFORMED OR NON-STANDARD DOCUMENTS.

8. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL THE AUTHORS, CONTRIBUTORS, OR COPYRIGHT HOLDERS OF BOOKHAVEN BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, DEVICE WEAR, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION) ARISING IN ANY WAY OUT OF THE USE OF THIS SOFTWARE.
